New Data Protection Act for Switzerland

The Swiss parliament passed a new Data Protection Act for Switzerland at the end of September 2020. The new law creates new information obligations, sets higher standards for the documentation of data processing and introduces new instruments to protect the rights of data subjects. As a result, Swiss companies have to update their internal processes to implement the requirements of the new law. The law is not expected to enter into force before the second half of 2021. Since the new law does not provide for any transition periods, companies are advised to use the remaining time to implement the new requirements.
